July's Nonprofit of the Month: RAICES

By Caitlin Couthen Permalink

Welcome to July! In the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave, it’s quite difficult to feel patriotic when there are children separate from their parents in cages at our border. We have to do something. We have to fight and change the policies that are corroding our country from the inside out. And at Wire and Honey, we love to put our money where our mouth is. That’s why the July charity is RAICES.

RAICES, the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services is a nonprofit that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to under-served immigrant children, families, and refugees in Central and South Texas. RAICES is the largest immigration non-profit in Texas with offices in Austin, Corpus, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

Knowing that there are children, BABIES, that are separated from their families, causing irreparable harm is something we will never stand for and we will fight in every way possible, including financially, to make sure this ends, the children are reunited with their families, and it NEVER happens again.

We all knew Trump was going to damage our country. But this is beyond what we ever imagined, and the parallels with this act of hatred and the beginnings of the Holocaust are too much to deny. It is frightening and debilitating to watch this happen, but we must continue the fight. Protest, contact your representatives. The time for a reckoning is now. We will not stand for this and we will not be complicit in these actions.

If you would like to donate to RAICES, we encourage you to do so here. And for every purchase made at Wire and Honey for the month of July, we will also make a donation. Keep up the fight, it appears we have only just begun.
