I recently saw a stunning sheer maxi dress shared on a friend's page and I had. to. have. it. Had to. I ordered and it is now one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. That is how I began my love affair with Little Posh Co. Owner Liyah Askew Shannon makes the most gorgeous pieces for both children and adults that are somehow simultaneously modern and timeless. Check out some of our fave pieces below and I promise you will want to peruse her website to see the rest of her amazing creations.
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I like to think I’m a pretty quiet and reserved person, but my family would tell you I’m actually quite silly and goofy. My husband and I met I’m college and 14 years, 3 kids and a cross country move, he’s still my bestie and biggest supporter. I’m a big fantasy and sci-fi nerd, I could eat cake with every meal and I’m a bit of a neurotic neat freak.
What made you decide to start The Little Posh Co?
I actually started this company by accident. I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer since I was about 6 and got my first sewing machine at around 11. I worked as an assistant buyer for Limited brands until my oldest daughter was about a year. After huge company wide layoffs, I became a stay at home mom and would make clothing and accessories for my daughter. Her playground friends, and eventually, her preschool friend’s parents would ask where I got her outfits. Once I told them I made it, they’d ask me to make things for their daughters. It kind of took off from there.
How do you decide what products to introduce?
Most of my first designs were things my daughter would ask for or things we came up with together. We would sit and watch project runway, draw and she always went fabric shopping with me. Now when I come up with a design, it usually goes through one of my daughters first. Now that I have a son, I plan to play around with even more unisex items!
What inspires you?
Everything. Literally everything inspires me. The colors in nature, history, natural metals, the sky, my kids and my favorite designers like Chanel, Monique Lhuillier, Versace and so many more!
What is one of your favorite products in your shop?
That’s way too hard! Everything I make with so much love, I can’t possibly choose.
What can we expect in 2020 from The Little Posh Co
Colors, drama and fun! I think I want to bring a little more mini couture to handmade. I usually scale down my ideas to be a more functional, but I think 2020 is going to be the year I let it out! I also want to dive back into accessories.
Do you have a favorite quote?
"You’re worth it."
What is one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self if you could go back in time?
I want to tell my younger self to be more confident. To stop being so weary of everything and just do it. Just go there. Just talk. Believe in yourself and your talent.
