Friday Favorites: Capitol Chic Designs

By Sarah Adams Permalink

If you've been in Michael's lately then I'm sure you've seen the gorgeous planner stickers from Capitol Chic Designs. Their line of stickers includes dolls that represent every ethnicity and incorporate details such as hair wraps, hair styles, clothing and accessories to give them each their own unique personality. There is truly a sticker for everyone and Capitol Chic Designs provides the inclusiveness that the planner community, and the world, so desperately needs. You can even get a custom doll that looks just like you!
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Lameka and I am from Arkansas.  I am married to Marc, who is a black inventor and we live in Maryland. I love paper crafts and playing spades.
What made you decide to start Capitol Chic Designs? How did you choose the name?
I actually began my business as Pink Bow Ties. I later changed it because I felt like I wanted my brand to represent a grown style.  My friend Cindy helped me with the name. We were driving in DC and throwing out names. She said well you are always on trend and it is chic, so Capitol Chic Designs. We had thought of another name but I felt because I was not living in DC, it would not be right.
How do you decide which designs to introduce?
Well, I base my designs on what is trending currently and others are customs. Also, since I do not truly create sticker kits, I want my dolls to match any kit you have in your planner.
What inspires you?
Trends inspire me. My family and friends inspire me. Truly the world inspires me.
What is one of your favorite designs in your shop?
My favorite is my Alice in Wonderland design. I wanted to make her black, so I did. Hahaha
What can we expect in 2020 from Capitol Chic Designs?
Expansion of my line in 2020.
Do you have a favorite quote?
You live life once but if you do it right the first time, once is enough.
What is one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self if you could go back in time?
My advice to my younger self, "Girl, don’t cry over spilled milk. There will be battles that will test you, just keep going. It gets better. Trust me.”
