You may have noticed on our Instagram page, this week's Friday Favorite taking over our feed earlier in the week. Jess Pollard of 28th Ave. is one of our favorite people. She is beyond talented and offers hand drawn/lettered designs available on stickers, tees, tumblers, and more. She designs fabric and occasionally offers hand made clothing in her shop. Jess also runs a Facebook group that supports and guides small businesses. And somehow she manages to find time to study to become a doula, as she is a staunch maternal health advocate. She is the definition of a Boss!
2020 Reading Challenge: Legacy of Orisha Series
This week's 2020 Reading Challenge is a 2 for 1. I loved the Children of Blood and Bone so much that I immediately tore into Children of Virtue of Vengeance. 10/52 books down, and I had so much fun with this series!
Friday Favorites: Inspired by Adrian Denise
I'm going to be honest here, I am super new to the whole accessories game. I've always thought I had a pretty decent fashion sense but I've relied heavily on my tattoos and fun shoes as accessories. However, over the past year or so I have slowly been dipping my toes into the world of accessorizing and I'm a little disappointed in myself for waiting for so long. On my hunt for fun accessories I stumbled upon Inspired by Adrian Denise and fell in love. Earrings are my go-to at the moment but Adrian has a ton of other amazing options such as hair clips, bracelets, and more. I'm still a bit timid about what I can pull off and I love that Adrian also has a blog on her site with fun outfit and accessory inspo. Meet this week's favorite, Inspired by Adrian Denise!
February New Releases
Our favorite picks for February include a few books that offer a different perspective for Black History Month. The Secret Garden of George Washington Carver introduces us to a child George, and how his love of plants and nature inspired his future as a scientist and inventor. And in Deathless Divide we get to experience an alternative US after the Civil War where the dead walk. We hope you check out and enjoy these selections.
2020 Reading Challenge: The Good House: A Novel by Tananarive Due
Has anyone ever recommended a book to you that you left you baffled as to why you'd never heard of it before? That was my reaction to this week's novel, The Good House by Tananarive Due. Why this isn't a horror classic that people are screaming about is beyond me, because this novel is absolutely brilliant. Book 8/52.

Friday Favorites: Typical Black Tees
If you follow along on our Instagram page, then you likely saw this week's Friday Favorite taking over our feed earlier in the week. It's no secret that Typical Black Tees is one of our all time favorite small shops. Not only is owner Nicole McCrimmon an incredible business owner but she is the founder of Brown Babes Rep, Too, a group that advocates for diversity and representation in the small shop world and beyond. She is, in every sense of the word, magic.
