Bear with me as my stomach is in knots writing this. I've never told my story in full.
We're mothers. We're the ones expected to stay. We're the ones who have to hold everything together. We're the rock, the glue. We're nurses, maids, teachers, lawyers, mediators, judges...we're strong! But sometimes we aren't.
I was in the car with my mom, we were just chit chatting as we often do, and I brought up how it would be so cool to have the privilege of white people. She chuckled and agreed, then asked which one I would want the most, kind like when you ask people what their super power would be - mine would be White Privilege.
Welcome to July! In the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave, it’s quite difficult to feel patriotic when there are children separate from their parents in cages at our border. We have to do something. We have to fight and change the policies that are corroding our country from the inside out. And at Wire and Honey, we love to put our money where our mouth is. That’s why the July charity is RAICES.
But here's something that you may not know about feminism - there is a difference between WHITE feminism and BLACK feminism. And no, I'm not "adding to the problem by separating races". Bottom line is that with separate races, comes separate issues. Black females are more likely to die during or after childbirth. We are earning less than white females with the SAME credentials, we are the most likely to be unarmed when killed by the police (that's still an issue, don't let the next shooting wake you up to the problem, stay woke.)
We need our lawmakers to do something. We need to demand that they do something. After the shooting in Florida, I have been overwhelmed with sadness and grief that this is still happening, how is this still happening? But I have also been overwhelmed with a sense of hope and spirit. The way the survivors of that tragedy have spoken out and are holding their officials accountable is so strong and beautiful. The GOP as we know it will not exist in twenty years, and that fills me with such optimism for our future. We have to follow the lead of these survivors and listen to them. They are literally begging us to protect them, and we are doing nothing. Unacceptable.
Woohoo! New designs dropping tonight (1/24) at 10pm EST.
Last week, the Trump administration fired all members of the HIV/AIDS advisory council. Therefore, AIDS United seemed the natural choice for our January organization of the month. Read more about this amazing organization and we thank you for shopping for a cause!
