Hello! Kristina here from The Eyre Effect -- yes, my blog name has changed, but don't worry I'm still posting retro style! As the weather turns colder and style turns towards deeper, richer colors, I've felt the urge to slap some paint on my lips to match my moodier preferences. Now, I'm only recently a lipstick convert. With two small children in tow, I was constantly afraid of smudging and smearing, and dreaded the transfer of my lipcolor onto whatever I ate or drank from.
But the pull of dramatic colors is worth the occasional smudge accident, and with the option to buy longlasting, smear-proof formulas now, it's easier and easier to wear some pretty colors all day long. Here are four lipsticks I think everyone should try out this fall!
Blue-Gray: NYX Stone Fox
I know, I know. This is a very special color and you're probably shaking your head at me thinking "Kristina, I could NEVER pull that off." Well, I'm here to tell you: you can. After posting about this lipstick, a few of my friends decided to take the dive, and just look at how amazing they all look. And if you want to see this entire outfit, click here!
Purple: Milani Matte Glam
I know, purple seems almost as scary as gray. But you'd be surprised once you got it on just how versatile and pretty it can be! There's anything from light to dark, pastel to intense, and depending on your mood it can give you edge, or add some sweetness. I filmed an entire video on all of the different purple lip stains, lipsticks, and liquid lips I have, and I highly recommend you find yourself a good purple for fall! Deep Wine: Milani Sangria
Perhaps the most "fall" of them all, deep wine is a beautiful color to add a little bit of edge to your outfit while still feeling classic. It's sophisticated and bold, and adds just the right amount of depth to whatever you're wearing! Here are a few outfits I've styled wearing deep wine lips: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
And, of course, Classic Red: Rimmel London Provocalips, Kiss Me You Fool
Afraid to take the jump? Don't know what red will suit your skin tone? Here's an easy trick: if you look good in rusty colors -- think mustard yellows, coppery oranges, rich browns -- you'll most likely be better suited to an orange-toned red. If you tend to prefer wearing spring colors, like pinks, purples, and blues, you'll probably prefer a blue-based red. Experement, find your perfect color, and rock it with anything and everything you wear! Red is the neutral color of the lipstick world.
